Taste of the Wild Recall...

Again, I'm not sure if anyone runs across this anymore, but I wanted to write just in case :)
If any of you are feeding any of the following brands,  Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul, Country Value, Diamond, Diamond Naturals, Premium Edge, Professional, 4Health, Taste of the Wild ... they are voluntarily recalling certain batches of the dog food from shelves for possible contamination of salmonella.  Taste of the Wild is made at the same plant as Diamond Dog Food.  The dog foods above are also made at the Diamond plant.

WHAT PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN RECALLED?
Diamond Pet Foods has voluntarily recalled several products produced in its Gaston, South Carolina plant between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012, because they may have been exposed toSalmonella.
The recalled brands include:
  • Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
  • Country Value
  • Diamond
  • Diamond Naturals
  • Premium Edge
  • Professional
  • 4Health
  • Taste of the Wild
Please check the production code on your bag to definitively determine if your product is recalled.

HOW DO I TELL IF MY PRODUCT IS AFFECTED?
If your production code has a “2” or “3” in the 9th position AND an “X” in the 10th or 11th position, your product is affected by the recall. The best-before dates for the recalled brands listed above are December 9, 2012 through April 7, 2013.The following graphic illustrates how to read the production code and best-before date:

WHERE DO I FIND THE PRODUCTION CODE?
It may be on the back, side or bottom of the bag and is labeled with the words “PRODUCTION CODE”.

WHY WERE THE PRODUCTS RECALLED?
This voluntary recall was initiated as a precautionary measure because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Diamond Pet Foods is doing this in order to ensure only quality product is available and to protect the health and safety of pet owners and their pets.

ARE ALL OF THE PRODUCTS CONTAMINATED WITH SALMONELLA?
No. Only 4 bags of food have tested positive for Salmonella out of nearly 6 million bags produced during the recall time period. Out of an abundance of caution, we voluntarily recalled a broad amount of product to be sure our customers and pets are safe. Only samples of the following three products manufactured by Diamond in Gaston, South Carolina, between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012 have tested positive for Salmonella:
  • Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice dry dog food
  • Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light Formula dry dog food
  • Diamond Puppy Formula dry dog food
The company has voluntarily recalled all formulas of the following brands of food manufactured at its Gaston, South Carolina, plant during this same timeframe. With the exception of the formulas listed above, none of these foods have tested positive for Salmonella, but the company is taking this broad action as a precautionary measure.
  • Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
  • Country Value
  • Diamond
  • Diamond Naturals
  • Premium Edge
  • Professional
  • 4Health
  • Taste of the Wild

HOW DO I GET A REFUND OR COUPON FOR A REPLACEMENT BAG OF FOOD?
More information about obtaining a refund or coupon for a replacement bag of food can be found on the “Refund Protocol” page. Please download the Refund Request form on that page to ensure you’ve included all required items.

I HAVE THE AFFECTED FOOD. HOW SHOULD I DISPOSE OF IT?
You should dispose of the product immediately by throwing it in the garbage can. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after handling the product and clean any surfaces that may have been exposed to the product with a mild bleach solution.

I FEED CANNED FOOD. IS THAT RECALLED?
Canned food is not included in our recall. This voluntary recall only includes certain batches of dry pet food. There is no need for concern and you can continue to feed the canned food as usual.

I’M A RETAILER. WHAT DO I DO?
We appreciate your business. For further questions or inquiries, call your distributor directly or call 1-800-442-0402. Press 2, and ask to speak to your Diamond Pet Food sales representative.

WHY HAVE YOU SUSPENDED PRODUCTION AND DELIVERY AT THE GASTON PLANT?
Production and delivery out of our Gaston plant has resumed. Diamond Pet Foods had temporarily and voluntarily suspended production and delivery of all products made at its Gaston, South Carolina plant because certain batches of dry pet food did not meet our stringent quality standards.

HOW ARE YOU ENSURING THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN AGAIN?
We conducted a thorough internal investigation of all systems and processes at our Gaston, South Carolina, plant – where the food was produced – and have taken corrective action. We also are working closely with state and federal officials to make sure consumers have all the latest information pertaining to this situation.

I'm not sure if anyone checks in on this blog anymore or not, but I thought I would update everyone.  My husband got a new job and we are moving 2 1/2 hours from where we used to live.  Due to us have to find another vet and build up a relationship there, we have made the decision to fix Chloe here before we leave instead of trying for a second litter.  I'm sad we won't have anymore Jack and Chloe's running around, but I feel this is the best decision for her.  I love my vets and can't imagine raising another litter without them!

Updated pictures of Piper...

My brother and sister-in-law came up this weekend and of course they brought Piper.  I swear she remembered the house and where everything was.  Chloe definitely remembered her baby.  We had Jack, the daddy, for the weekend too and the 3 Cairns played great together and were very entertaining.  Please excuse the funky eyes...I need to find a "pet eye" repairer!  LOL

Litter # 1 is officially gone...

I'm so full of different emotions.  I miss the little squirt balls, but I'm also very thankful to have things back to normal.  Everyone is doing very well and I have heard nothing but good from the owners.  Thanks to all of you who joined us on this journey!  We are still undecided if there will be a litter #2.  There are a lot of factors to consider.  If we decide to go for it, look for litter # 2 sometime next spring!

2 left!

The time has come....
Friday we spent 11 1/2 hours in the car meeting up with Bear and Jenavee's families.  It was fun, but man am I sore today!  LOL  Molly, Cooper, and Ruby's owners came to the house to pick them up today.  Everyone seemed so happy to meet their little ones and the puppies seemed to be very content with their new families.  We are left with Annie and Piper for now.  Neither of them seem to notice that there are 5 other puppies missing, which really surprises me!  I have been starting them outside since I can manage just the two of them so much easier and they now have run of my house.  So far only one accident!  Way better than I was anticipating.  Maybe having two Cairn Terrier puppies isn't such a bad idea.... ;)

I apologize for being behind...I've been sick!

I'm still not well, but it's waited long enough!  So the pups are 10 weeks now.  Less than 2 weeks to go to D-day!  LOL  I know the puppy owners are anxious!  They are all growing well and have even had a few trips outside.  It's tough to get them back in, even though its still pretty cold here.

The puppies are 8 weeks old!

I know I'm late...I apologize!  I have been sick....Not a lot has changed this week from last, so we will just stick to the pictures this week.  I'll be back into the swing of things next week!
